Is the LEGO BrickLink University of Science city-compatible?

With not long left to wait until crowdfunding starts, we now know whether the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program University of Science is city-compatible.

Pre-orders and crowdfunding for the five LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 sets will begin on June 9 at 8:00am Pacific time. This includes KingCreations' University of Science for £329.99 / $359.99 / €359.99. At 3,991 pieces, this will be one of the biggest LEGO BrickLink Designer Program models ever released.

Early reviews surfaced this week for the Series 8 build, giving us a closer look inside the colossal building. More have since been released, comparing the huge building to some of the LEGO Group's modular models.

Stud City positions the university next to both 10197 Fire Brigade and the more recent 11371 Shopping Street. The BrickLink Designer Program set is expectedly larger than both sets, but it doesn't look drastically out of scale.

Whether it will work well roadside is still up for debate, since the main stairs come close to the edge of the baseplate. Bricksie's approach to adding the university to a city scene was not to put it roadside.

Their tactic was to expand the plaza area of the building to wrap around the model. Separating it from official modular buildings also ensures that its increased scale looks less out of place than it does when directly next to another set.

This strategy will be great for LEGO fans with plenty of space in their city for such a plaza, but those keeping the build on a shelf will ultimately be more limited. The good news is that the University of Science looks perfectly fine next to LEGO modular buildings

Crowdfunding for this and the other five Series 8 sets opens on June 9 and will remain open until June 18, or until available stock is exhausted. Here are all five projects in Series 8.
